Dr. J.S. Anand was born at Alamgir, Distt. Ludhiana, Punjab, India], while his native village is LONGOWAL, made famous by the great martryr Sant Harchand Singh Longowal. His father, S. Pritam Singh and mother Sardarni Ishar Kaur, had to move to Ludhiana in 1960's. He had his high school education at Vishvakarma Hr. Sec. School, Ludhiana, the nursery of IAS and IPS officers. A first class graduate from Govt. College, Ludhiana, Dr. Anand did his Masters in English from Punjabi University, Patiala, and stood 2nd in the University. He was conferred the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy by Panjab University, Chandigarh for his work on Mysticism in the Poetry of Walt Whitman and Prof. Puran Singh.
